The Social Protection Budget Management Unit (SPBMU) Management Information System (MIS) offers a prospective platform for developing Bangladesh’s Single Registry MIS, as envisioned in the 2015 National Social Security Strategy (NSSS). The Single Registry aims to integrate scheme-specific MISs, linking the National ID, National Household Database (NHD), and other functional databases to improve targeting, transparency, and efficiency. Building on existing G2P (Government-to-Person) infrastructure, the SPBMU MIS already validates beneficiaries, tracks expenditures, and reduces duplication through NID verification. Transforming SPBMU MIS into a Single Registry would ensure cost-effectiveness, timely implementation, and interoperability across ministries. Drawing from international experiences, the system could advance robust data analytics, enhance inter-ministerial coordination, and support evidence-based policy for inclusive and accountable social protection in Bangladesh.
