Stipend for Disabled Students

Ministry / Division : Ministry of Social Welfare

Background and Objective :

The main objectives of this programme is to ensure the commitment of the constitution, National disability related policy, Bangladesh Protabandhi Kalayan Ain-2001 and UN Convention on the rights of the persons with Disabilities. Through this programme attempt has been taken to mainstreaming Student with Disabilities. Still now the rate of dropout is much more among the student with Disabilities. They cannot afford education cost because most of them come from poor family. So through this programme new avenue is created for higher education.

Local Implementation : The Department of Social Services under the Ministry of Social Welfare has been implementing this programme through some committee. Committees are National Steering Committee, District Steering Committee, Upazila Programme Implementing/ Municipal Programme Implementing Committee. The Stipend are Disbursed through Banking Channel.

Eligibility Criteria : Those attending educational Institutions run by the Department of Social Services, financed by the Jatioy Protibondhi Foundation, Government Primary School, Non-Government Registered Primary School, Government and Non-government High School, Government and Non-government College, Government affiliated Aftedhai, Dhakhil, Alim, Fazil, Kamil Madrasha, run by the NGO and financially supported by the Government, educational Institution for Students with Disabilities run by NGOs/ Voluntary Social Welfare Agencies, Government affiliated, Vocational Institution, Public University and other Educational Institution affiliated by the Government.

Candidate must be 5 year of age above, a citizen of Bangladesh, must be the handicapped in accordance with the article 3 (1) of Bangladesh Protibondhi Kalayan Ain-2001, must be a Student with Disabilities attending any of the educational Institutions stated in Serial No. 3, the disabled student must have an attendance rate of 50%, must attend the annual examination and must bear a registration certificate issued by the District Social Services Office.

Benefit : Primary Level BDT 300.00 taka monthly, High School Level (vi-x) BDT 450.00 taka monthly, College Level (xi-xii) BDT 600.00 taka monthly and University Level (Graduation and above) BDT 1000 taka monthly.
