Bangladesh has recognised and acted on the importance of social security as a core strategy to address the triple problems of poverty, vulnerability and marginalisation. The Government has embarked on the task of framing a comprehensive strategy for its social security engagement to coordinate and consolidate the existing safety net programmes for better efficiency and results. The National Social Security Strategy (NSSS) has been developed under the joint leadership of the Cabinet Division and General Economics Division, Planning Commission, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. After a broad consultative process, the strategy has been approved by the Cabinet in June 2015. The core of the strategy is a life cycle approach looking at the particular needs that poeple may have over their entire life, benefiting mother and child, youth, vulnerable working age, the elderly and persons with disabilities. Social inclusion of marginalised groups is a certain principle, with an expansion of schemes for extreme poor and most vulnerable people.
Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNOs) play an important role in implementing social safety nets at the field level. Countrywide seminars on the orientation of the National Social Security Strategy (NSSS) took place in all the divisions of Bangladesh. Mohiuddin Ahmed, Additional Secretary of the Cabinet Division of the Government Republic of Bangladesh attended the seminar as a special guest.  The seminar was organized by the Cabinet Division and Divisional Commissioner’s Office, Barisal Division and supported by Social Security Policy Support (SSPS) Programme.

Mr. Md.
